Picking Out Your New Puppy
As soon as you are sure you are ready for a new puppy, it is time to fil out your Puppy Application. Once your Application Fee is paid, you will be placed on the waiting list. We use a rolling waiting list. Please let us know what preferences you have. Male or Female, color coat, wavy or curly, F1 or F1b, standard or mini, also the month or season you are hoping to bring home your puppy, things like that. We will add them beside your name on the list. Once a new litter is born we give the mom and puppies a few days to settle in. We like to make sure all are thriving and growing properly. We will be taking updated photos of the puppies each week. When the puppies are 1-2 weeks old we will start going down the waiting list and adding families to the new litter waiting list. We will take new pictures every Wednesday and send them out on Thursday. At 5-6 weeks old we have a Puppy Meet and Greet. This is a time when we invite all the families on the waiting list for that litter to come and meet the whole litter. Puppies go to their first Vet appointment at 6 weeks old. At 6-7 weeks of age we will take videos of each puppy to help you decide. If the puppy you are looking for is not available you are welcome to stay on the list and wait for the next litter. Once you have chosen your puppy you can relax and start reading your new puppy training books and watching YouTube videos. Puppies are ready to go to their forever homes at 8 weeks old.
PUPPY PHOTOS
We begin posting individual photos of the puppies for you to see and share with friends and family. Around 4-5 weeks they are ready to play and we love taking videos to share as well. Be sure to follow our Facebook and instagram pages to see all the action!
Things You Should Bring
This is always a question that is asked but the answer is much simpler than you might think. I suggest that you bring a towel or two, just in case of an 'accident' by the puppy, and someone to hold him/her on the trip home. You will likely have no shortage of volunteers for this job :) Most make it home without incident, but the towel will be ready in case they do not:) Puppies do experience some trauma when leaving their litter-mates. It is a bit of a shock to them and they need all the snuggling and reassurance they can get!
Putting them in a crate is too impersonal and you can expect them to howl all the way home. They are lonely since they are used to having multiple other siblings to play with at a moment's notice up until that time. When you hold them, or place them on the floorboard where you can reach them to reassure them, then the trip is less frightening to them. The close contact on the trip also allows for bonding to take place with the puppy, and whoever is holding them. This is a good thing. This helps prevent as much trauma as possible and actually secures his dependence upon you or your family right away.
What Your New Puppy Needs
Many people want to buy collars, leashes, crates, etc., before they come to pick up their pups. We think this is a good idea and we recommend that you do not take your puppy into a pet store until they've had three rounds of shots. A good basic list of items to have on hand includes:
Name Tag, Collar and Leash - on our Swag page, we have recommended collar, leash and tag options from Amazon.
Food and Water bowls - look in your cupboard, that’s how we roll…or we have some Amazon links as well.
Good Quality Puppy Food - we recommend pawTree Pet Nutrition.
Food Storage Bin - we find that a good Stainless Steel Storage bin (look on our Swag page) works perfect and keeps the food fresh.
Crate - check out our Swag page for recommended crates…believe us, we’ve tried a lot!
4-5 Inexpensive Bath Towels (put these in their crate, and just throw them in the laundry when they get soiled)
Several Types of Toys - we have several recommended Kong brand toys on our Swag page. Your puppy needs stimulation and is used to playing with their litter-mates. Toys will help.
Slicker Brush - yep, our Swag page!
Chew Treats - Always have on hand something for your puppy to chew on, if and when your puppy chews on something they shouldn't, immediately exchange the item for one of these and tell them "NO - Chew on this instead!". Check out the Swag page!
Training Treats - although we mainly use regular dog food for training, we recommend Zuke’s Mini Naturals Dog Treats for those that prefer using treats!
IMPORTANT NOTE
* When taking the pup to a pet store, any store, or the vet, it is wise to carry them at all times. This is because they have had only one set of shots at this time and dogs with full immunity will be tracking all sorts of diseases in on their feet. This does not harm them but can harm the young pup that is just beginning to build its own immune system now that it is away from mom. Once they have had their three sets of puppy shots you will not need to worry about this.

DO YOU OWN ALL OF YOUR DOGS?
Yes, but not all of them live here at Harmony Doodles. We use a Guardian home program so that all of our parent dogs are given the time and attention they deserve. We work with wonderful families who love dogs and are so happy to raise a Harmony Doodle. Most of the Moms come and stay here at Harmony Doodles during the time of birth and raising of their puppies. That give us time to love on and care for them and their new puppies. Doodles are part of our life and involved in all of our daily activities. We love to be doing something that our children can be a contributing part. Our little ones are the main puppy holders and players. So, if you have kids be sure your pup will be primed and ready for play!
WILL MY PUPPY BE USED TO AN INSIDE OR OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENT?
Both! All expecting mothers and young puppies are kept indoors until the puppies are 5 weeks old. After 5 weeks we begin introducing them to a special yard area for playtime and potty-training. All of our dogs have access to a protected area year-round, and get lots of socialization from ourselves, and our children.
